Toquop Township as it is now known consists of approximately 21 sections or 13,300 acres of land that adjoins the City of Mesquite to the north. The current city maps show seven roads leading into Toquop Township. This land was auctioned to the public under the authority of the Lincoln County Land Act on February 9, 2005 and was sold as eight parcels for a total of $47.5 million dollars. Preliminary PUD plans estimate approximately 40,000 housing units along with commercial and public works development. 40,000 housing units will require about 20,000 acre feet of water rights, these water rights did not come with the deeds to the land.

Whether this ever actually becomes a part of The City of Mesquite officially will be political, the fact is most people will not know if they are driving in Clark or Lincoln County. At the current time there is no access to the land except through Mesquite.

Many questions surround the future development of this now private land, including public services, schools, water, etc.

One thing seems certain, the investors who spent $47.5 million on the land plan to develop it and for them time is money.
